Anhydrous Formulation Stability: From Lab to Scale-Up

Water-free formats such as balms, sticks, and solid bars continue to grow in popularity, driven by consumer demand for concentrated products, simplified formulations, and more sustainable packaging solutions. While these formats offer significant opportunities for innovation, they also present unique formulation challenges. Small changes in processing and storage conditions can have a major impact on product stability, texture, appearance, and consumer performance.

In this webinar, we explore the critical role of temperature control throughout the product lifecycle, from formulation development and manufacturing to storage and distribution. Through formulation trials and analytical studies, we will examine how cooling rates, filling temperatures, storage conditions, and ingredient selection influence crystallization behavior, texture development, and long-term stability.

The session will also highlight why ingredients with similar INCI names can behave very differently in a formulation and how understanding melting profiles, molecular structure, polarity, and solubility can help formulators reduce development risks and improve product robustness. Using examples from shea-based systems, we will demonstrate how processing decisions can affect final product structure and performance over time.

Key topics include:

  • Common stability challenges in anhydrous formulations

  • The impact of cooling kinetics, filling temperature, and storage conditions

  • Understanding ingredient functionality beyond the INCI declaration

  • Analytical approaches to evaluating structure and stability

  • Practical strategies for improving scale-up success and reducing manufacturing risks

Whether you are developing skincare, lip care, body care, or stick-based applications, this webinar will provide practical insights to help you design more stable anhydrous formulations from the laboratory through commercialization.

Register to gain a deeper understanding of the factors that drive stability in anhydrous systems and learn how to translate laboratory success into reliable commercial products.
